Augmented Reality (AR) blends digital content with the physical world, allowing virtual objects to appear as if they occupy real space. At the Innovation Center, we develop AR applications using a marker-based system: simple black-and-white printed patterns (“AR markers”) that the app can recognize. When viewed through any camera-enabled device, AR markers are replaced with virtual 2D or 3D objects that remain anchored in place, even as the viewer moves around them.

Powered by the A-Frame library (a framework that makes Extended Reality development remarkably accessible), we’ve made the full source code for the application available on our GitHub repository to help others learn from and build upon this work. We’ve also posted a demonstration video now hosted on our YouTube channel. As with all of our initiatives, we hope this project inspires people to imagine what’s possible with this technology. Reach out if you have any ideas or if you might be interested in partnering with the Innovation Center to develop related applications!
