At the Innovation Center, one of our core values is accessibility: we believe that innovation should be open, welcoming, and available to everyone. This philosophy guides many of our software development initiatives, especially the small but meaningful applications we create to enrich everyday life. For example, we recently created a rain soundscape web app: a calming rain-and-thunder sound mixer you can customize with interactive volume controls. We then created a rain landscape web app, which builds on the sound mixer and adds an animated scene featuring swirling and drifting clouds, falling rain, and a mountain background.
For the benefit of the software development community, we release the complete source code for these and other applications freely on GitHub. For anyone who simply wants to enjoy the calming ambience without interacting with the app, we also recorded a full hour of the rain scene and uploaded it to the Innovation Center’s YouTube channel, giving everyone instant access to a peaceful audio-visual experience. As we continue developing new tools, workshops, and learning experiences, projects like these remind us that innovation isn’t limited to solving big problems – it can also include simple creations that make the world a bit more welcoming.
